Equation & method

Classroom conventions: All gallons are US liquid gallons. Use actual inside diameter for flow and volume, not nominal pipe size. Results are rounded for display. These tools teach calculations; select piping and equipment using the adopted code, project conditions and manufacturer data.

References and assumptions

Geometry uses π, 231 in³ per US gallon, and 1,728 in³ per ft³. Pressure uses approximately 0.433 psi per foot of water; weight and heat examples use 8.34 lb per gallon. Temperature and water density affect these approximations.

The friction calculator uses the Hazen–Williams method for water, as described in the EPA EPANET documentation. Fixture demand requires an applicable table, such as IPC Appendix E; the linked edition is a reference, not a statement of local adoption. Calculator 18 accepts the instructor’s table and does not invent a universal fixture-unit conversion.
